Cumming is a city in Forsyth County, GA. The population was estimated in 2005
to be around 6,000. However, the unincorperated areas of Forsyth County has a population of over 100,000.
The city is the County Seat of Forsyth County. It is located about 26 miles north of Atlanta's outer
ring of U.S. Highway 285.
Much of Cumming and Forsyth County are on, or in close proximity to Lake Lanier, The lake, with 38,000 acres
of water, is extremely popular with boaters, houseboats, jetskiers and fishermen.
The area now called Cumming was first inhabited by Cherokee tribes, They came in 1755,
the Cherokee and Creek people developed disputes over hunting land. After two years of fighting,
the Cherokee won the land, The Creek people moved south of the Chattahoochee River.
